Fundraisers at Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center

The Fourth Annual Breakfast Event

Benefiting The Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center

On April 24, 2015, local citizens, officials and the board and administration of DCCDC gathered bright and early at Davidson College Presbyterian Church's Congregation House for the Center's fourth annual breakfast fundraiser. Event attendees were treated to a delicious breakfast prepared by DCCDC chef Betsy Verhey and enjoyed speeches by Davidson Mayor John Woods, Pediatric Medical Director Annie P. Condon, MD, Professor Andrew O'Geen, PhD, Libby Johnston, Director of DCCDC, Cornelius Mayor Chuck Travis and Ellen Donaldson, President, Board of Directors. The Rev. David E. Buck, Rector of St. Alban's Episcopal Church welcomed the attendees and gave the invocation.

A note from Ellen Donaldson, our Board President:

Dear DCCDC Board Friends,

Thank you so much for all you did to make this year's Breakfast Event such an incredible success! We had the largest attendance in 2015 as compared to the previous 3 years, with nearly 200 attendees! And, to date, we have received just over $30,000 in gifts and pledges from at the Breakfast Event, which is awesome! There are several folks who have not yet given or pledged, so here's hoping that we can get the gifts and pledges close to $35,000 over the next week or so!

The table and room decorations were just fabulous, with Alison's children "paper dolls" adorning the pots of Gerbera daisies on every table. And Betsy once again outdid herself with a delicious breakfast, and was capably assisted by Tom and Sue Bright! Jay Wilson's slides of the children really set the tone for the event, and the speakers were terrific! John Woods has been a long-standing supporter of the Center, and it was great to see how Chuck Travis has turned into such a terrific ambassador for the DCCDC!

-The Fundraising Team of Alison, Libby, Pat, and Susan for all your work and creativity in planning and setting up for the event, including the fabulous "paper dolls," balloons, purple table cloths, cards from the children and more!
-The Board Table Hosts -- Alison, Brenda, David, Libby, Pat, Paul, Susan, and Tom -- who helped ensure a great attendance and encourage folks to pledge to our Center!
-Betsy Verhey for once again serving as our Chef and preparing such a delicious and nutritious breakfast!
-The "Sous Chefs" Tom and Sue Bright for getting up at the crack of dawn to help Betsy prepare the delicious breakfast!
-The "On-Site Hostesses" Lynda and Stephanie for greeting guests and helping folks with credit card donations, and a shout-out to Stephanie for recording all the gifts and pledges over the weekend!
-Jay Wilson and Morris Haywood for slide preparation and audiovisual support (Jay) and on-site photography and our new web site (Morris)!
-Libby for giving such a heartfelt presentation and for working with speakers Dr. Annie Condon and Dr. Andrew O'Geen to give compelling talks! And, most importantly, for leading the Center to flourish and be the loving, educational, healthy Center that it is!

With gratitude,
